St. Zozimus

Zozimus, the son of wealthy land owners, was born around the year 570. He entered the monastery of Saint Lucy near Syracuse, Sicily, at age seven. Later, during the meeting to choose an abbot, Zozimus was left behind to watch the door and guard the church's relics. The bishop decided this was a man humble enough to be trusted, and made Zozimus abbot.

He was chosen the unwilling bishop of Syracuse in 649. He was noted for his charity to the poor and his work to educate his parishioners.

Zozimus died in 660 of natural causes. His Feast Day is March 30.
