St. Gerard Sagredo

St. Gerard Sagredo (also known as St. Gellert or St. Gerhard, c. 980 1046), was a bishop born in Venice, Italy. On a pilgrimage through Hungary, he was appointed by the King, Saint Stephen of Hungary, to tutor his son. He later played a major role in converting Hungary to Christianity. He was the bishop of Csanad, and is known as the Apostle of Hungary.

Gellert was martyred on a hill in Budapest which got its name after him.

Canonized in 1083 along with St. Stephen, Gellert is currently one of the patron saints of Hungary. His Feast Day is September 24.
