St. Clement Mary Hofbauer
|
Clement was born in 1751 in Moravia. As a young man he joined the Redemptorist Order, and was ordained in 1785. He was a missionary to Warsaw with several companions from 1786 to 1808, working with the poor, building schools and orphanages. Clement and his companions were imprisoned in 1808 when Napoleon suppressed religious orders, and were then expelled to Austria.
Clement founded a Catholic college in Vienna, worked with young men, and helped revitalize German religious life. He died on March 15, 1820, at Vienna. His Feast Day is March 15.
