Blessed Marie of New France

Blessed Marie de l'Incarnation (1599-1672) was raised in a family of craftsmen and tradesmen, and joined the Ursulines at Tours, France, on 25 January 1631. She came to New France on 4 July 1639, and arrived in the future Quebec on 1 August 1639. She founded the Ursuline community of Quebec, opened the first school for girls in North America, and is considered the mother of the Canadian Church.
