Jutta was born in the eleventh century in Spanheim, Germany. She became a hermit, living in a small house near the monastery of Saint Disibod on the Diessenberg River. She taught local children, including her niece, Saint Hildegard of Bingen. Jutta gained a reputation for spirituality and devotion to God, and attracted many young female followers who grew into a religious community with Jutta as their prioress. Jutta died in 1136.
Her Feast Day is December 22.
